Transportation

Bennettsville is centrally located in Marlboro County and approximately a two-hour drive from Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh, and Wilmington, N.C. and Columbia, Myrtle Beach, Rock Hill and Georgetown, SC. The County is located in the I-95 Corridor – the major north-south trade route in the U.S. More than 60% of the U.S. population is within a single day’s drive from Marlboro County and the ports of Wilmington and Charleston are within a two hour drive.

Interstate 95 runs through extreme southern Marlboro County. Most of the County’s industrial sites and buildings are within a 15-20
minute drive of Interstate 95 and less than 45 minutes from Interstate 20. I-74 is approximately 4 miles north of the County line and
connects the County to the metropolitan area of Charlotte, Wilmington and Greensboro, NC.

U.S. & SC Highways

Major U.S. trade routes traverse Marlboro County including U.S. 1 in the western section of the County and US 15 which runs north-south
through the central section of Marlboro County. SC Highway 9, one of the major east-west trade routes in SC runs through the central
portion of the County connecting with Myrtle Beach to the east and terminating in Spartanburg to the west. Other SC Highways which serve
as major trade routes include SC 38 (north-south) and SC 34 (east-west).

Marlboro County is one connection away from anywhere in the world. Florence Regional Airport (FLO) is approximately 30 minutes from Marlboro County and provides daily flights to domestic and international air service from Atlanta’s Hartsfield Airport (ATL) and Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).  Nearby Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) is approximately 1.5 hours away and Raleigh-Durham International Airport is approximately a 2-hour drive from the County.

General Aviation – Marlboro County Jetport – H.E. Avent Field (BBP)
The Marlboro County Jetport – H.E. Avent Field is owned and operated by Marlboro County. The airport has 5,003-foot runway that can
accommodate most general aviation aircraft. The airport is located near the City of Bennettsville. The facility offers a variety of
services including aviation fuel, hangars, aircraft charters and rentals, and pilot services.

Marlboro County has outstanding access to two of the top ports in the Eastern U.S. The Port of Wilmington is only 2 hours away via I-95 and I 74 and the Port of Charleston is just 2.5 hours away via I-95 and I-26. The Port of Savannah is approximately 3 hours away via I-95.

Pee Dee River Railway

Companies that require rail service should always consider Marlboro County. The County owns a short-line rail that is operated under contract to the Aberdeen & Rockfish Railroad. The Pee Dee River Railway as it is known, is a 29 mile line between McColl and Industry in Marlboro County, South Carolina.  Marlboro County purchased the line following CSX abandonment and leased the operation to the Pee Dee River Railway.  The line now operates seven days a week serving the Domtar Paper Mill, two ARAUCO Boards Mills, Mohawk Carpet, Hanson Aggregates and Southern States. There are several industrial sites and buildings located on the Pee Dee line.

CSX

The Pee Dee River Railroad connects to Class 1 carrier CSX. Founded in 1827, today CSX serves nearly two-thirds of the American population through a network spanning 23 states, the District of Columbia and two Canadian provinces. The CSX network connects every major metropolitan area in the eastern United States. CSX provides customers in Marlboro County and all of South Carolina with exceptional service to all parts of the U.S. including the Port of Charleston and the Port of Wilmington.
